english courses in boston

English courses in Boston run from Monday to Friday, in various levels all year round. You can book a course for a length of 1 to 52 weeks and you can start your English course on any Monday of the year (except for holidays). We ask for an indication of your level on the online enrolment form. If you're not sure, don't worry, before the start of the course you will take a level test to determine your exact level of English.

Groups are formed by level of English. So you will be placed in a group with students who share your level of language proficiency. The groups consist of students of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities, we believe this produces a more interesting and educational environment.

You will develop your knowledge of grammar and vocabulary and practice all language skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing. Classes are designed to improve accuracy and fluency.

Please mind that F1-visa students are required to take minimum 18 ‘real’ hours per week, so in Boston only our courses of 24 lessons and more are eligible for the F1 student visa. Click here for more information on visa regulations.

English group courses

Classes can either be in the morning or in the afternoon. The General English 20 course consists of 4 lessons daily, Monday to Friday. If you prefer a more intensive English course, in Boston we offer the Intensive English 24 and Intensive English 30 courses. They are our most popular courses and cover all of the major language skills including: grammar, vocabulary, conversation, pronunciation, listening comprehension, reading, and writing. The Intensive English 24 consists of 4 lessons daily Monday to Friday with 2 afternoon classes on Tuesday and Thursday. Choosing the Intensive English 30 you have 6 classes daily from Monday to Friday.

All intermediate and advanced students choosing the Intensive English 24 and -30 courses also have a choice of elective lessons two afternoons per week. The elective lessons to choose from are American Culture, Firm and Media, American Slang, Accent Reduction, Business English and Creative Writing. In between classes you’ll have a short break for some coffee or refreshments. English classes in Boston are run in small groups. Because of the small groups, the teacher can give individual support and classes are intensive. Besides the language, the English-American culture is an integral part of classes.

English combination courses

In addition to the General English 20 group course it is possible to take 10 individual lessons per week, the so called General English 20+10 course. In this course you have 4 lessons in a group and 2 individual lessons daily, Monday to Friday.

During the individual classes you have the benefit of deciding the subject-matter to be discussed. For example, you may choose to have your English instruction emphasize English use in a business environment or in another area of your choosing like medical English. In addition, you can also choose to dig a little bit deeper into grammar or work on your fluency in general. Because the individual classes are adjusted to your wishes and capacity, following this course make you learn English faster. This course is recommended for anyone who wants to learn English fast but has a limited amount of time.

Exam preparation courses

The English speaking world has many different ways to determine your level of English. One of the most common exams for non-native speakers in English is the Cambridge exam, which has two main levels; the FCE and the CAE. The University of Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) and the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) are recognised by employers around the world. The FCE and CAE exam course will help to improve your English for real-life situations.

The exam preparation course we offer in Boston prepares students for these Cambridge exams which are among the most widely recognised English language examinations in the world. Go to the Cambridge exam website to check the official FCE and CAE exam dates and more information about the exam itself.

The exam preparation courses in Boston consist of 30 lessons per week specialised exam preparation in a small group, either FCE or CAE. Before booking, you should contact us to do a pre-test so we can check if your level is sufficient to start one of these courses. The course length is 8 or 11 weeks and has fixed start dates. Please go to our enrolment page to verify the exact course start dates. The FCE or CAE exam itself will take place in the week after the course, so the 9th or the 12th week. The exam fee and reservation is not included in the price.
